Peer Recovery Services is a peer run organization operating The Wellness Center of San Joaquin County (since 2008) and Manteca Wellness Center (since 2020). We provide evidence based peer support services by and for individuals with mental health conditions. Most of our members receive clinical support as well but anyone experiencing mental health challenges may receive services here -with or without a diagnosis! Membership is free and no insurance is required.
We provide an innovative approach to combining peer support and recovery tools through an education-based program. Peers receive support from Peer Recovery Coaches who have ‘been there.’ Members learn coping skills as they develop greater independence and are supported by peers in recovery. We have overcome the barrier of stigma. Recovery is possible. Recovery is real. We are living proof. Our wellness centers are stigma free zones!
We also offer practical assistance in supporting people’s recovery. For example, housing help and connection to resources on a county, state, and national level. Members come to The Wellness Center to "Discover, Recover & Grow!"
PRS provides a safe and supportive community environment; members find an atmosphere of acceptance, dignity and respect. Staff have lived experience with mental challenges, and as peers, mutual knowledge is shared, and we learn from each another.
Peer support services is an “evidence-based practice.” Research shows that individuals receiving clinical services, who also receive support from peer programs, have reduced need for expensive crisis services. Our centers are for those with or without a diagnosis who wish to receive support for their mental health challenges. We also welcome family members and supporters who want to learn more about mental health.
Referrals are not necessary and we welcome ‘walk-ins.’ If you’ve never been to one of our centers, we love to give tours! Please visit!!
